Strand Releasing has acquired Iran Oscar entry ‘Sun Children’ for US distribution.

Majid Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’ competed at Venice and represents Iran in the international feature film race at the 2021 Academy Awards.

‘Sun Children’ has performed best in the fest circuit, winning awards for best young actor young (Rouhollah Zamani) at Venice festival as well as Hilal Best Feature Film at Doha Ajyal Film Festival in the UAE.

‘Sun Children’ tells the story of 12-year-old Ali and his three friends who work hard together to survive and support their families, doing small jobs in a garage and committing petty crimes to make fast cash. The flick focuses on child labor and how society should ensure a good education for them.

Co-written by Nima Javidi and Majidi, some notable actors such as Ali Nasiriyan, Javad Ezzati, and Tannaz Tabatabaee have appeared in the film.

The 33rd International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Iran presented its best director award to Majidi and its best actor award to Zamani.

‘Sun Children’ has been scheduled to go on screen at the Hainan Island International Film Festival in China.
